The SEAT Tribu represents one of the most important steps taken by SEAT in recent years. Launched in mid-September 2007, at the Frankfurt Motorshow, it was the first SEAT concept car that gave a clear indication of building an SUV in the future. SEAT currently has three SUV models in its range, the Arona, the Ateca and the Tarraco, and the Tribu was the prototype that continued taking steps towards this segment after the 2000 Salsa Emoción.
In addition, the Tribu revealed the lines of future SEAT models. Not for nothing, it was the first full project of the new SEAT Design director, Luc Donckerwolke, and his team, that the following year would be the architect of the SEAT Ibiza's fourth generation. The Tribu was designed at the new SEAT Design Center of Martorell's Technical Centre, opened that same year.
The design of the Tribu kept the dynamic line of the León of the time (second generation), combined with the cosmetic features of an off-road vehicle, such as the squarer wheel arches we can now see on the Ateca, which was the first member of the new SEAT SUV production family. Likewise, the nestled triangular graphics of the rear lights defined a style that inspired the Tarraco, SEAT's biggest SUV.
The Tribu looks robust and sporty, is highly versatile, and has a comfortable interior that is brimming with comfort and technology features. And of course, it is equipped with a high performance diesel engine that is very eco-friendly. The SEAT Tribu clearly aims to strike the perfect balance between the natural environment and urban settings. In fact, you could say that is a car that has been designed for both the city and the country.
One single car body brings together three distinct driving styles, which drivers themselves can select at any time: Urban –for city driving-, Sport –to take full advantage of the Tribu’s driving force-, and Freerun –which brings out the 4x4 essence of this innovative model. The dashboard is fitted with a touch screen and USB and Internet connections.
The SEAT Tribu displays all the characteristics of an SUV, and much like traditional off-road vehicles, its contours clearly outline the difference between the main body (the passenger compartment) and the wheels and wings. At the front, its expressive raised headlamps and grille, combined with its impressive wheel arches, give it the look of a single-seater racecar. These looks do not disappoint, as its combination of off-road personality, considerable ground clearance and all-wheel drive system makes it a genuine all-terrain vehicle.
The 2007 SEAT Tribu concept car is now part of the SEAT HISTÓRICOS' Collection, being one key link to the current SEAT range, together with the Salsa Emoción, the IBX (2011) and the 20V20 (2015) prototypes.
