The SEAT 20V20, unveiled at the 2015 Geneva Motor Show, was a statement of intent by SEAT. As indicated by its name, "Vision 2020", it was a prototype that advanced the design language of future SEATs.
In other words, the 20V20 was the reference for SEAT's development over the next five years and brought together the design elements that were to be seen in the SEAT range up to 2020. Features such as the triangular full LED headlights or the double side blister, an evolution of the Leon's design language that exuded power and sensuality.
In addition, the 20V20 was an SUV, with a sporty coupé-style design but with a marked SUV personality. Its unveiling in Switzerland preceded by exactly one year the launch of SEAT's first production SUV, the Ateca, unveiled at the 2016 Geneva Motor Show, which would be followed in the next few years by the Arona and the Tarraco.
Designed under then SEAT Head of Design Alejandro Mesonero-Romanos, with the 20V20 SEAT confirmed its ambition to turn the SUV family into the third pillar of the brand, alongside the Ibiza and the Leon. A more functional and spacious vehicle, with a higher seating position.
Thus, the SEAT 20V20 was a show car that reflected SEAT's vision for the future. However, it was not simply a show prototype but a concept car that was very close to a vehicle that could be driven on the road.
Bright orange in colour, its dynamic SUV coupé silhouette offers a versatile interior, with a spacious four- or five-seat environment and a large boot that conceals two integrated suitcases and stores an electric personal mobility device.
The 20V20 also makes a leap in connectivity. The heart of the vehicle is the SEAT Personal Drive, a coin-shaped touch device that operates as a mobile navigation system and remote control to activate the car’s climate control. When located in the centre console, it doubles as the 20V20's start button.
Mechanically, the 20V20's platform allows the use of all types of TDI and TSI engines, both available as plug-in hybrids. All-wheel drive is electronically controlled and a comprehensive package of advance driving assistance systems is available to raise the level of comfort and safety. The dashboard has three integrated TFT screens.
For all these reasons, the SEAT 20V20 was one of the most recognised novelties of 2015. So much so that the German Design Council awarded it the design prize at the prestigious Automotive Brand Contest in the Prototype category. This is one of the most important design competitions in the automotive industry and the only international one in its speciality. The SEAT 20V20 received the award on 15 September 2015 at the Frankfurt Motor Show.
Today, the SEAT 20V20 is part of the SEAT HISTÓRICOS Collection in Nave A122, as a symbol of the brand's strategic vision for the future and, therefore, a decisive turning point in its history.
